Scientific Facts in the Qur’an

Published: 30 March 2026

The Qur’an is Allah’s final revelation and a book of guidance revealed over 1400 years ago, yet within its verses we also find profound signs in the universe, nature, and ourselves that resonate with modern scientific discoveries.

The Origin of the Universe

The Qur’an describes the heavens and the earth as once being a single, unified entity before being separated, which strongly resonates with the idea of a common origin of the universe.

Allah says:

"Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We split them asunder, and We made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?"
Surah Al‑Anbiyā’ 21:30

The Expanding Universe

Centuries before modern cosmology, the Qur’an spoke about the sky as something Allah built with strength and is expanding.

Allah says:

“And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are surely expanding it.”
Surah Adh‑Dhāriyāt 51:47

Mountains as Pegs

The Qur’an describes mountains with the image of pegs, evoking stability and anchoring, which believers see as harmonious with modern insights about deep mountain “roots” in the earth’s crust.

Allah says:

“Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?”
Surah An‑Naba’ 78:6‑7

Stages of Human Embryonic Development

The Qur’an refers to distinct stages of human formation in the womb, using concise yet vivid terms that many see as remarkably aligned with what embryology later uncovered.

Allah says:

“And indeed We created man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm drop in a firm lodging. Then We created the sperm drop into a clinging clot, and We created the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We created the lump into bones, and We clothed the bones with flesh, then We produced him as another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.”
Surah Al‑Mu’minūn 23:12‑14

As our scientific knowledge grows, these Qur’anic signs invite us not only to marvel at the precision of creation, but to deepen our faith in the One who revealed this guidance.
